HATCH END - HARROW TRIATHLON FAQ's |
 |
Q: How do I enter the race? |
A: See the Race Entry page where you will find the link to complete your entry online through our chosen partner Entry Central. Easy! We hope you find that this is an improvement on the paper-based entry system we have used in the past. |
Q: How do I know if my entry has been accepted? |
A: Once your entry is paid for, you will receive an e-mail which confirms your place in the race. If you choose to pay by cheque, you will receive your confirmation e-mail once the Organiser has received your cheque.

Q: How do I find out my race start time? |
A: All information about the races, including start times and a timetable for the day will be available on the website once race entries have closed. Nothing will be posted out to you. |
Q: I haven’t done a triathlon before – do I need any special equipment? |
A: The necessary equipment is a swimsuit, a bike and a bike helmet. Anything else is your choice! You can add clothing in transition if you wish (but nudity is not allowed!), but any time you spend doing this is included in your time to complete the race. |
Q: I can’t swim front crawl – can I swim breaststroke in the swim section? |
A: You can swim any stroke on your front (i.e. not backstroke), as long as you are mindful of the other competitors and give way when someone faster wishes to overtake you. You are not allowed to walk in the pool, but can stop to rest at the end of the lengths. |
Q: I’m worried I may not be able to complete the race without stopping to rest – is this allowed? |
A: You can stop and rest at any point in the race, but make sure you don’t obstruct any other competitor. You won’t be the only competitor to stop and take a breather at some point. |
Q: My son / daughter will be 8 years old by the end of the year. Can they do the triathlon? |
A: No, the minimum age is 9 and is determined by their age as at 31 December 2011. |
Q: Can I help my child in transition? |
A: No, only competitors are allowed into the transition area. Marshals are available to help where needed. |
Q: I don’t have a road bike. Can I use a mountain bike? |
A: Yes, any road worthy bike is acceptable. |
Q: I don’t have a cycle helmet. Can I do the triathlon without one? |
A: No, you MUST have a bike helmet – if your turn up without it, you will not be allowed to race. |
Q: How do I find the competition rules for triathlons? |
A: The governing body for triathlon is the British Triathlon Federation. The rules which apply to races are available to view on their website at :- http://www.britishtriathlon.org/events/page.php?article=&category=/events/&folder=rules/ |
